The art of Chinese flower arranging originated more than 1,500 years ago. Flower arrangements were used for festivals, as religious offerings, palace decorations, and expressions of scholarly appreciation. Due to political turmoil in China during the 1800s, the practice of flower arranging declined to near extinction because it was not deemed to be of great social or political importance.
